Specialty Woodworks' Log Home Wood
Doors - "Creations of craftsmanship"
For as long as there have been beautiful log homes and buildings, craftsmen
have bestowed their finest skills on the doors that lead through them and the
cabinetwork that adorns them. That's because doors and cabinets play a large
role in creating the warmth and ambience of a home, while representing the taste
of the people who live there.
Today, nowhere is the art of woodworking practiced with greater skill or
craftsmanship than at Specialty Woodworks, located in the heart of
Montana's beautiful Bitterroot Valley. We believe that no one can duplicate the
knowing eyes and gentle hands of our craftsmen. That is why every creation -
whether it's a door, cabinet, hutch, vanity or moulding - is made by people who
love their craft and have spent years perfecting it. In fact, back in 1981 we
got our start by designing and crafting high-quality products to complement log
homes. Today you'll find our products gracing homes ranging from stately
mansions to rustic cabins throughout the world.
Assembled by hand, not machine.
The beauty of our doors and cabinets comes from the inside out, starting
with imaginative design and meticulous engineering.
From the time our expert lumber grader chooses the premium woods, until the
moment the piece is shipped to your home, everything we make is inspected many
times by our practiced craftsmen.
First each part is skillfully hand-machined and fitted together. Then, each
door is carefully detailed and prepped for hanging. Finally, everything is
meticulously checked and re-checked to assure our high standards of quality.
Only then - when our craftsmen are satisfied that the corners, the joints, the
grain and every last detail are exactly as they should be - does our door or
cabinet receive our Maker's Mark. Only then is it perfect for your home.
Details, details...
All of our varied door styles share one thing; attention to detail. From
the western elegance of our traditional raised panel doors to the rustic
simplicity of our mission doors, every piece of wood that goes into our doors
and cabinets is hand selected, stickered and air dried to 8% or less moisture
content. All of our raised panel doors feature floating 1 3/8"-thick
laminated panels, which make them virtually split-proof. We also laminate the
stiles and rails for further stability. We believe that all this meticulous
attention results in the most structurally sound doors and cabinets in the
industry: even with the thousands of doors we build annually, our replacement
rate is less than 1%. All of our doors are available in Blue Stain Pine (milled
from standing dead timber), Knotty Pine, Cedar, Rustic Character Grade
Hardwoods, such as Alder, Oak, Cherry, Hickory, Butternut and Maple. We can also
custom make doors in almost any other wood species you choose. Over the years,
we've worked with Clear Grades of Alder, Basswood, Cherry, African Mahogany,
Hickory, Honduran Mahogany, Maple, White Oak, and Walnut. For custom designs,
shapes, and sizes, you can take advantage of our computerized design service.
We sell our doors prepared for hanging with the jambs knocked down. This
means that both the doors and the jambs are mortised for hinges. We include
commercial grade hinges with a brass finish (other finishes are optional). The
doors are bored for standard 2 3/4" backsets; other backsets are available
on request. The jambs are mortised for strike plates, and are shipped
unassembled. We also offer custom mortising for lock sets at an additional cost.
Many of our doors also incorporate glass, including etched and beveled glass
designs.
Our standard interior doors are 1 3/8" thick, but we can also make
them 1 3/4" thick if requested. The interior doors include a door stop.
Exterior doors come with rabbeted jambs that are machined for weatherstripping
(which is included). Adjustable oak thresholds built into an extendable (up to
12") anodized aluminum sill are available.
All doors come hand-sanded and ready for clear coat finishing except the
Flat Panel T&G style (available finish sanded at an additional cost).
